Controller and contact details
This Privacy Policy explains how personal data is processed when you visit simonbrinkmann.net, subscribe to The Decision Edge newsletter or contact me by email.
The controller responsible for this processing is:
Simon Brinkmann

You can contact me at this address with questions about data protection or to exercise your rights.
Website hosting and technical data
This website is hosted using Wix. The provider is Wix.com Ltd., based in Israel.
When you access the website, Wix processes technical data needed to deliver and operate it. This may include your IP address, browser and device information, operating system, requested pages, referring website, access times and technical logs.
This processing serves to provide the website, maintain its stability and security, and prevent misuse. Its legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is operating a secure and functioning website.
Where Wix processes personal data on my behalf, its Data Processing Agreement governs that processing.

Cookies and consent management
This website uses cookies and similar technologies. These may store information on your device or access information already stored there.
Technologies strictly necessary to provide a service you expressly request may be used without consent under Section 25(2) of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG). Where personal data is processed for necessary website operation and security, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Non-essential storage or access requires consent under Section 25(1) TDDDG. Where the associated processing of personal data relies on consent, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.
I use Usercentrics for Wix to manage cookie preferences and document consent choices. The provider is Usercentrics GmbH, Germany. Consent management may involve consent status, timestamps, technical information and identifiers used to record and apply your choices.
Processing required to document and respect consent choices is based on Article 6(1)(c) GDPR.
You can review the services listed in the consent settings, reject optional categories and change your choices using the privacy settings icon on this page. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

Wix Analytics
Wix includes built-in reporting about website activity, such as visits, page views and form submissions. Depending on the reporting function, technical and usage information may be processed, including browser or device information, timestamps and information about interactions with the website.
Where optional analytics technologies access or store information on your device, consent is required under Section 25(1) TDDDG. Associated personal-data processing based on that consent falls under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.
Processing necessary for website delivery and security is described under 'Website hosting and technical data'. A service being built into Wix does not, by itself, make all analytics processing technically necessary.
The consent settings provide information about the services detected and configured for this website.
The Decision Edge newsletter
Subscription and delivery
You can subscribe to The Decision Edge, my email newsletter about making better decisions in business, relationships and life.
To subscribe, you provide your email address and consent to receiving the newsletter. I use Wix to manage subscriptions and send emails.
The legal basis for newsletter delivery is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.
Double opt-in
I use a double opt-in process. After submitting the subscription form, you receive an email asking you to confirm your subscription. Newsletter delivery begins only after confirmation.
Information about the subscription request and confirmation is recorded to verify the subscription and help prevent misuse. Processing necessary to document consent is based on Article 6(1)(c) GDPR. Processing to investigate or prevent misuse is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, reflecting my legitimate interest in preventing unauthorised subscriptions.
Email-link activity
Email open tracking is disabled.
Wix records clicks on email links and associates these records with individual contacts. This includes subscription-related activity and, where emails contain content links, activity concerning those links. Subscription confirmation and unsubscribe records serve to manage your subscription; content-link records can also reveal engagement with newsletter content.
According to Wix Customer Care, these records are visible to me in the Wix dashboard and remain stored while the corresponding contact is retained. Wix Customer Care states that deleting a contact also deletes its associated data.
Unsubscribing stops newsletter delivery but does not automatically delete the contact or its activity history.
Unsubscribing
You can withdraw your consent to receive the newsletter at any time using the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting simonbrinkmann95@gmail.com.
Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. Requests for deletion are handled separately, subject to any lawful need to retain limited records.
Contact by email
If you contact me by email, I process your email address, the contents of your message and any other information you provide to respond to your enquiry.
For enquiries concerning a possible contract, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. For other enquiries, it is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, reflecting my legitimate interest in responding to messages.
The published contact address uses Google’s Gmail service. Google processes email data as part of providing that service.
Please only send personal information necessary for your enquiry.

Recipients and international transfers
Personal data is made available to service providers where necessary for the purposes described above. These include Wix for website hosting and newsletter services, Usercentrics for consent management, and Google for email communication.
Data may also be disclosed where required by law or necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Some providers process data outside the European Economic Area.
Wix.com Ltd. is based in Israel. The European Commission has adopted an adequacy decision for Israel. Wix states that, where transfers are not covered by an adequacy decision, it relies on standard contractual clauses and additional safeguards.
Information about providers’ international processing and safeguards is available in their privacy information and, for Wix, its Data Processing Agreement linked above.
You can contact me for further information about safeguards applicable to the processing of your data.
Storage and deletion
Personal data is retained only for as long as necessary for the relevant purpose, unless a legal obligation or another lawful reason requires continued retention.
Technical data is subject to the hosting provider’s retention arrangements and any need to investigate security incidents.
Newsletter data is used to manage your subscription while it is active. After withdrawal, newsletter delivery stops. Limited records may need to be retained to document consent, respect an unsubscribe request or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Wix contact and email-link records do not disappear automatically when you unsubscribe. Their relationship to contact deletion is described under 'The Decision Edge newsletter'.
Correspondence is retained for as long as necessary to handle the enquiry and any related obligations or legal claims.
When a purpose ends, data is deleted or its processing restricted unless continued retention has a lawful basis. You can request deletion by contacting me.
Your rights
Subject to the conditions of the GDPR, you have the right to:
• Obtain access to your personal data under Article 15 GDPR.
• Have inaccurate data corrected under Article 16 GDPR.
• Request deletion under Article 17 GDPR.
• Request restriction of processing under Article 18 GDPR.
• Receive eligible data in a portable format under Article 20 GDPR.
• Withdraw consent at any time, with effect for the future.
Right to object
Where processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object on grounds relating to your particular situation under Article 21 GDPR.
Where personal data is processed for direct marketing, you may object at any time. This also applies to profiling connected with that direct marketing.
To exercise your rights, contact:
